Remembering Nikki Giovanni

Listen Later

Welcome to my podcast, d.colin.ized! If you’ve been listening and followed over here, thank you! And if you’re new, I’m glad you’ve joined the journey! I am a poet, visual artist, performer, and wearer of many hats. I was supposed to have this out already. First, I wrote an essay on my blog. Then I recorded all the parts of this episode which in large part was me reading my blog post out loud. It’s been so long since I recorded an episode for my podcast that I didn’t even realize all the tools that made it a super simple process to throw together were gone. If I wanted to upload, I was going to have to find a different way to put my clips together. I had a moment of bewildering silence for what used to be Anchor, the app I used to start d.colin.ized. I could have just said forget it but I was determined to release this episode and I refused to re-record it all so that meant I’d have to learn and pivot.

And that’s how I landed on Substack. And that’s how I started using Adobe Audition to edit. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a whole episode that I put together all by myself. It’s not perfect but I did it! With practice, more learning, and probably a better mic, I’m sure I’ll get better at the sound quality.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode and since this is a new beginning, a makeover of sorts, new platform, new format, let’s say this is Episode 1! I share my memories of Nikki Giovanni, her impact on me as a writer and poems.

until next time,
