Andrea and Bethany kick-off a five-part series on wisdom from the book of Proverbs. You will be challenged and encouraged as you think about the role wisdom plays in your life.
The conversation opens by asking, "What advice did your parents give to you when you were a child?" Solomon says, be sure and remember the advice of your parents. It should shape you and help you!
Wisdom reveals the direction of our lives and the condition of our hearts. Proverbs provides practical wisdom for our daily lives. The purpose of the book of Proverbs is to attain wisdom, discipline, understanding insight, and how to live a prudent life. This book is for everyone and there is something in it just for you!
Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." A proper fear of the Lord sets us up for success because it reminds us that God is God and we are not!
In the second half of the program, Andrea and Bethany answer the question, "What is Wisdom?" (Think about it... how would you define wisdom) The word wisdom in the book of Proverbs means to be skillful, knowledgeable, have experiences, have insight, have judgment, and the word is always used in a positive sense that provides discernment and a reverent attitude towards the Lord. This means that wisdom is crucial if we want our lives to honor God!
Wisdom reminds us to be careful about sin! There are two paths in life: the broad path that leads to destruction and the narrow path that leads to Godliness. Wisdom is not hidden from us! Wisdom makes herself known.
When we seek the Lord and His wisdom, He will reveal sin in our lives. This leads us to answer the question, "How do we respond to the correction of the Lord in light of wisdom?" Wisdom will show us what is right and wrong. Proverbs 1:23 says, "If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you." When we respond to the rebuke of God, we experience His heart, path, and plan. Wisdom always positions us to experience a safe life that is at ease without fear of harm.
How are you doing on the wisdom scale? Are you seeking God's wisdom or do you need to make focus on seeking and attaining God's insights for life? Tune in to this five-part series and learn practical ways to seek and apply wisdom to your life!
