Rayna Neises, ACC, host, and Karen Weaver, cohost, reflect on last week’s interview with Carlos Olivas III who shared his experience as the primary caregiver for his father. Additional insights discussed:
- Take a minute to check out the Caring Quiz to find out exactly what kind of caring style you have.
- During the caregiving season, you will need to let go of some things you thought were important to be able to embrace the season and allow it to bring about change and improvement.
- Having the tough conversations allows you to have a true North reading for making decisions. However, do not be discouraged if your loved one is not receptive. Just be okay with doing the best you can.
- Remember to have the tough conversations with your children so they are not left in the same difficult position.
- Stepping in to help allows you to model for your children and makes an amazing statement to them.
- You cannot put joy on hold!
- Support groups can bring different people into your life that you will not find right outside your door in neighbors or even other family members.
- You might think you can do it alone at first but somewhere along the line you will need support. And, you will need to find it in whatever way that works best for you.
