« I began writing this book as a response to the death of my mother in June 2020. »
« For me if a book, a film or a poem does not have an emotional impact on the reader it has failed essentially. I want readers to feel at the end of one of my books that an emotional shift has taken place. »
« Part of the reason that I love music above the other arts, including literature, is because of the purity with which sounds outside language can convey emotions. »
« Divisions which seem in the last few years to have become more entrenched and more violent and I wanted to explore what the roots of that might be. »
