In this episode, Jake and Emma take a closer look at Nehemiah 10, a powerful chapter where the Israelites renew their covenant with God after rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. We discuss:
• How the leaders set the example by signing the covenant (verses 1–27).
• The community’s shared responsibility to live as God’s holy people (verses 28–29).
• The specific commitments to avoid intermarriage, keep the Sabbath, and support the temple worship (verses 30–39).
Through their actions, the Israelites show us the importance of leadership, obedience, and communal worship. Yet, their story also reminds us of our need for Christ, who fulfills the covenant perfectly on our behalf.
Reflection Questions:
• How can we live as distinct people in today’s world while remaining faithful to God?
• In what ways can we better support the work of God’s kingdom?
• How does Christ’s finished work give us hope when we fail to keep God’s commands?
Prayer of Reflection:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for calling me into Your covenant community. Like the people of Nehemiah’s time, I desire to renew my commitment to live faithfully according to Your Word. Help me to honor You in my relationships, to trust in Your provision as I rest in You, and to support the work of Your kingdom with joy and generosity.
Lord, I know my efforts will fall short, but I praise You for Jesus, who has perfectly fulfilled Your covenant on my behalf. Strengthen me by Your Spirit to live a life that brings You glory and draws others to Your truth.
In Christ’s name, Amen.
