Through the conversation between Kumbha and the ascetic king Shikhidwaja, Swamiji explains what is ‘Renunciation’. He says Renunciation is of the mind – as everything is felt by the mind, experienced by the mind. The mind, being consciousness, has got infinite powers. By virtue of these powers, it produces the gross objects, preserves them and makes us experience them. Thus, everything is a mental creation – in the mind by the mind. It is such a mind that we have to renounce. Renouncing the mind means renouncing the ego, ‘I’ feeling. Ego is the seed from which the whole world tree is spreading forth.
