Wisconsin state Assembly Rep. Steve Doyle in studio discussing rigging election maps, the governor’s race, data centers, and a pair of bills he’s working to pass. Doyle also serves on the La Crosse County Board, in which we talked about the contention of those elections, road funding and the proposal to set $1 fines for marijuana possession.
We began the show with the Wisconsin governor’s race, which now has five Democratic candidates — though not the biggest name — along with three Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is considered the frontrunner.
After that, we discussed the potential of Democrats gaining power in the state Legislature and whether they would redraw U.S. House maps as a counter to Republicans in Texas and other states, who have redrawn maps five years early to eliminate Democratic seats.
On county board issues, this month’s meeting was the first of two on lowering the fine to $1 for possession of 25 grams or less of marijuana — a policy already in place in the city of La Crosse. We also talked about what’s ahead for county road funding.
Lastly, we touched on data centers and the bills Doyle is working on, including creating an Office of Suicide Prevention and ending the practice of charging 17-year-olds as adults for certain crimes.
