Kingdom Life

Repentance or Resistance?

Listen Later

In this sermon by Pastor Chris Romig, the message focuses on spiritual alertness and the urgent need for repentance in response to escalating sin as described in Revelation chapter 9. Chris begins by praying that the congregation would wake up from spiritual slumber and be ready to hear God's word, particularly as they study a passage depicting an intensifying judgment upon the earth.

He draws attention to the five prominent sins emphasized in the closing verses of the chapter: idolatry, murder, sorceries (occult and drug abuse), sexual immorality, and theft. Chris points out that not only will these sins be rampant in the end times, but they are already increasing in society today. He explores how modern forms of idolatry include crafting false images of God that suit personal or cultural preferences, while murder and the devaluing of life have become normalized in headlines and cultural attitudes. He also warns about the growing acceptance of occult practices, substance abuse, and sexual immorality, even within some Christian denominations. Theft and lawlessness, he notes, are prevalent and often justified in today's world.

Chris's central challenge is for listeners to do "spiritual house cleaning," examining their own lives for any trace of these sins not just lamenting their presence in society, but repenting personally. He reminds the congregation that true repentance means turning away from sin and towards God, embracing grace and the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Concluding with a call to readiness for Christ's return, Chris encourages believers to seek the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit, to repent fully, and to remain faithful, trusting that God's grace is sufficient but also striving to honor Him in every area of life.
