Report claims ByteDance links with China’s ‘Party-state’ establishment

A report by a leading Australian thinktank has revealed the world’s largest startup — ByteDance — and its links to the Chinese “party-state” establishment through popular Chinese short-video app “Douyin” for the dissemination of propaganda.
The report further stated that “all levels and divisions of police units from the ministry of public security to county-level traffic police would have their own Douyin account to disseminate propaganda.”In response to ET’s questions on the ASPI report, a ByteDance India spokesperson said: “As a user-generated content platform in China, Douyin allows individuals, organisations and institutions, including civic and law enforcement groups, to set up user accounts.
This practice is comparable to how social media platforms in other countries allow similar organisations, including law enforcement, to create accounts for purposes such as crime prevention alerts.
Douyin does not endorse the content generated by its users, but rather, similar to Twitter or Facebook, provides a platform to all its users.
That video would go viral on other digital platforms like Twitter, before Aziz’s account was reinstated.TikTok claimed Aziz was suspended because she used a previous account to post a video featuring a picture of Osama Bin Laden , and that it was a human moderation error. | To read full story, visit https://startuparound.com/read/1575356405.74083/Report-claims-ByteDance-links-with-China’s-‘Party-state’-establishment?ref=audio_experience
