Thursday night was a national black holiday as the Black Panther premiered. Queens Like Us was in the place taking in all the melanin and black excellence for our first live podcast. We definitely showed up and showed out. The outfits, the excitement, and overall energy was radiating throughout the event. It was amazing to see groups of friends, girlfriends, families, and even students being brought together to witness this much-anticipated movie.
We decided to have some fun and interview attendees before they went into the movie to hear what they were looking forward to about the movie. We got some great perspectives as well as entertaining responses from the wonderful participants. When we asked what superpower black people have that is unique to us as a people that no other culture can recreate, we got some great answers. Participants spoke of our strength, resilience, and endurance being apart of our superpowers.
If you have not already, please make plans to see Black Panther, This film brings so many conversations to the table, and even more importantly, showing how much representation matters. You are sure to see yourself in one of the characters. Seeing a cast that is pretty much all black, seeing women in leadership and positions of power, and showing a not so typical princess that is gifted and a clear advocate for STEM. Black Panther is everything we need to move the culture forward.
