Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so Jesus said he must be lifted up as well. The reason Moses lifted up the serpent was the people who belonged to God were snake bit. We also are snake bit, with the sting of the serpent’s bite of sin. Because of this bite, we have a mind that is bent on sin and not on Jesus.
