Eight months after Okada finally cemented his place at the top of New Japan, he found himself once more across the ring from Tanahashi, but for the second time it was under the 30-minute time limit conditions of a G1 Climax match, meaning his IWGP Heavyweight title wasn't on the line, but there was still much for both men to gain by winning. Not just by getting another win over their greatest rival, but the winner would reach the Climax final. If they were unable to get the job done in time, then Hirooki Goto would claim the top spot in Block A.

And no one wants to see that, right?
