Sarah wants Ishmael sent away because Ishmael stands in the way of Isaac becoming the favored son, and the one through whom God will name or mark Abraham’s descendants. God heard and saves Ishmael, in order to make him into a great nation. God keeps his promises to preserve and bless Ishmael, for Abraham’s sake.
