Research Talk: Jonathan Camargo, Ph.D researcher at the EPIC Lab

Listen Later

Jonathan Camargo is a Ph.D. student in the EPIC lab which stands for Exoskeleton and Prosthetic Intelligence Controls. It is a research lab that is a part of the Woodruff School of Engineering. The lab is led by a mechanical engineering assistant professor, Dr. Aaron Young. Camargo is a Fulbright Scholar who works with the development of lower limb power prosthetics, using electromyography (or EMG) signals and mechanical sensors for user intent recognition. He develops control systems that reliably incorporate the user loop for better accuracy and proprioception. Camargo is now a published researcher. One article, in which he co-authored with Dr. Young, is titled, “Feature Selection and Non-Linear Classifiers: Effects on Simultaneous Motion Recognition in Upper Limb.” He outlines a study that [quote] “serves to improve the feature and algorithm selection for surface and EMG signals in the classification of simultaneous motions generating a viable approach in the recognition of combinations actions from the upper limb”.
