Resilient Roots: South Asian American Co-Parenting Post-Divorce

Listen Later

The last episode discussed the stigmatized topic of divorce within the South Asian American community, exploring how to talk about marriage and divorce with our kids. This week, we want to provide support specifically to South Asian American parents who are divorced.First, we’ll discuss how South Asian American parents communicate with their children in general, emphasizing the importance of communication. Then, we’ll delve into parenting tips for when parents decide to tell their children about a divorce, including strategies for effective co-parenting and managing the co-parenting relationship.
  • Key topics include: The dynamics of post-divorce co-parenting and maintaining joint custody, communication challenges for parents and their children, best practices for talking to children about divorce, and how to support and strengthen family relationships. Through these conversations we can highlight strategies to consciously uncouple while keeping the needs and interests of children in mind to showcase positive co-parenting practices within the South Asian American community.
We are thrilled to welcome Simi Markar, MFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and the founder of Mindset Counseling to share her expertise. Simi will talk about common challenges South Asian American families face, particularly regarding communication and divorce.
