Following George Floyd’s death in May, we experienced weeks initially, of shock and grief; and then, for a time, chaos, grief, senseless violence. Some with an agenda to deliberately increase chaos and violence. How do we respond when all is shattered? This is what Judah experienced when Jerusalem collapsed after a year of Babylonian siege. Jeremiah 39 and 52 tell us of the fall, largely echoing the book of Kings. But then Jeremiah 40-44 gives us our only glimpse into the chaos after the fall of Jerusalem: how will Judah, who has struggled for faith, respond when everything falls apart?
