As I mentioned in the introduction to this podcast, I decided to keep this recording and the following two in chronological order as they took place in the 30 Ways to Happy Days series I was producing. Depending on when you're reading or listening to this, the world and the situation could look very different. Certainly the world in the last year plus has revealed a lot and much has shifted. I believe more than ever that these ways are key to people seeing each other as human and treating each other well, with empathy.
In this episode, I open up about the horrific events in Israel that happened days ago (at the time of the recording) on October 7. I share my personal connection to Israel, having lived there for a decade, and the deep ties I have with family and friends still there. This isn't just a distant news story; it's a real and raw experience.
I invite you to explore what it means to be a decent human being in times of crisis. How can we use our character strengths—bravery, love, perseverance, and kindness—to support those in need? I challenge you to reflect on your empathy and ask yourself if you can truly put yourself in someone else's shoes during such trying times. I conclude this recording with a prayer I wrote years ago, a call for peace and compassion.
