President Biden announced on last month that the US will send 31 Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine’s military. The move prompted Germany to drop its resistance to sending its own heavy tanks and cleared the way for similar moves by other NATO members. With the tanks en route, Ukraine’s President Zelenski has ramped up the call for Washington to provide F-16 fighter jets to Kiev.
Alongside that escalation, there’s been an enlargement of calls for Russia’s “total defeat” coming from hawkish circles in the US and NATO countries.
