The word rest conjures images of peace and tranquility after a hard day’s work, leading one to contemplate a nap in the recliner or a soft mattress for tired bones. Rest is a major topic in the Bible; however, it is a far different concept than simply sitting back and relaxing. This lesson begins a short series of sermons on this topic, entitled, “Rest, in Peace.” These studies will focus on episodes from ancient Israel that are ultimately used by the writer of Hebrews as he explains the promised rest that God offers.
