To have the mind at ease is truly a blessing. This means that there is tranquility and peace, being fully comforted that the Lord is in control. This is rest. The people of Israel had this opportunity after their departure from Egypt; however, they allowed the dangers surrounding them to rob them of this peace. Four decades later, a new generation had a better grasp on the concept as they trusted that the Lord was about to deliver to them a land of rest. Sadly, this rest was forfeited by a failure to be faithful to Him. These ancient peoples teach us a great deal about the concept of rest both in this life and the life to come. This is the second in a short series of sermons on the topic of rest.
