Ep 004 - It Just Continues!

It’s Episode 4 and the news just keeps going, and so does the show! In our first-ever live-streamed recording, Doug and Todd break tradition with some pop-culture conversation to open the show, as Doug sat down to record shortly after taking the family to A Minecraft Movie. We get some spoiler-free conversation, which - in true ADHP fashion - meanders into other films, like Top Gun: Maverick and Star Wars.

When finally getting to the politics, Doug goes over Trump’s Terrible Tariff week and what he thinks really happened with the announcement, the stock market, and why Trump reversed course just before the tariffs went into effect. Suffice to say, we saw this coming.

News of the Week covers the Trump Admin’s continued crusade against anyone who can’t prove their citizenship (not that they’re giving anyone a chance to), but we do hear some good news, with a California student suing DHS and ICE, and a Supreme Court decision that went UNANIMOUSLY against the Orange Fuhrer. We also get Doug’s take on a Washington State Democrat that’s got herself into some hot water with Democrats and leftists at large.

Finally, returning to pop-culture for “What’s Geek this Week?”, Todd tells us how our IRL cartoon villains are actually being made into IRC (in real comics) baddies. Another comic villain, this time from the MCU, wants to join the DCU, and do we have another Beetlejuice film in the works? The boys also pontificate on the nature of cloned wolves, and Todd informs us of a Schitts Creek reunion that’s happened on another Canadian series.

You’ve heard of “Netflix and chill,” but what if I told you about “Medicare and FAP?” With these immortal words, Doug and Todd open the second episode of the Attention Deficit Hyperactive Politics podcast with a case for instituting a guaranteed basic income, including a brief analysis of pilot programs and the conclusions we can draw from them.

In Weekly Political News, the duo focus on the stories that show how the Trump Admin is failing to live up to Pete Carroll’s “win forever” mantra - that is, instead of getting better every day, right now America is getting worse.

In the inaugural edition of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Politics, hosts Doug and Todd work their way through opening jitters, technical glitches, and out-right misnaming their own show, but eventually settle into a groove discussing who they are and what they stand for, their thoughts on the current state of national politics, and introduce us to what the show will be all about.

The discussion starts with the “Why” of the show and progresses to Doug’s five “political principles” that inform the way he thinks about current events and policies. Todd shares his history with podcasts and explains why this show is ADHD-related. 

In “News of the Week,” the duo discuss the Trump Admin’s inclusion of an Atlantic journalist in a top-secret defense chat-group, Tom Homan’s admission that they’re deporting people without bothering to prove if they’ve committed a crime (or are even non-citizens), and the current events in Turkey, which Doug believes are a blueprint for how Trump will attempt to undermine American elections. 

In true ADHD fashion, the course of the show darts from topic to topic, curving into culture with shallow dives into 1984, South Park, and even a Biblical reference. And at the end, the guys clear the air with “What’s Geek this Week,” including an ADHP-EXCLUSIVE update on a coming legacy film sequel that we can confirm is in the works. You’ll just have to tune in to find out!
