Genesis 42.1-25, 43.1-15

Joseph was the son of Jacob and Rachel, the much beloved son of Jacob's old age. Jacob treated Joseph with great favour which is exemplified by the extravagant coat with long sleeves. His brothers hated him for this and conspired to kill him. It is within the context of this dysfunctional family that God will use Joseph to bring about His salvation of hundreds and thousands of people.
