Restore Cognition - Dramatic Results - Magic In Struggle - Dr. Sue Paul

Listen Later

In this insightful episode, Prof. Scott Fulton sits down with Dr. Sue Paul to explore the cutting edge of brain health and aging well. They open by debunking persistent myths—like the idea that cognitive decline is purely genetic or an inevitable part of aging—setting the stage for a conversation grounded in optimism and science.

Dr. Paul shares details about Kinnections, a cognitive health intervention program she developed for Asbury’s senior living communities. Built on evidence-based principles, Kinnections uses movement, novelty, and personalized cognitive assessments to help participants maintain or even improve brain function. With activities like boxing, Tai Chi, dance, and rock climbing, the program intentionally focuses on challenge over mastery—activating neuroplasticity in fun, engaging ways.

More than 90% of participants, including those with mild cognitive impairment, have shown stable or improved scores.

The conversation also touches on the struggle to motivate individuals who don’t yet see signs of decline and the broader need to create environments that support cognitive wellness before a crisis arises.

Dr. Paul also introduces SeniorScapes, a park project designed to make outdoor fitness and cognitive stimulation accessible to all ages.

Together, Scott and Sue champion a proactive, possibility-driven approach to brain health and aging.
