This week on License to Parent… Trace Embry and Co-Host, Rich Roszel speak with our guest, John Stonestreet, Radio Host of “The Point” and Co-Host of “Breakpoint,” a Fellow at the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview. John is also an author and well sought after speaker on the subjects of faith and culture, theology, worldview, education, and apologetics.
We’ve talked before on License to Parent about Vince Lombardi, the NFL football coach who led the Green Bay Packers to three straight NFL Championships back in the 1960’s. That great success began to diminish over time until the team fell into a horrible slump. Lombardi realized that the heart of the problem was that his team had abandoned the fundamentals of the game. Has a similar abandonment happened to the American family? What about the church? Or perhaps our culture at large? As we raise our children, what would it look like if we returned to the fundamentals of what is, most certainly, more than the “game” of Christian parenting?
Today on License to Parent, John Stonestreet joins Trace and Rich to shed some more light on why giving up the basics pulls the base out from under the family structure. John works with the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview. His book “Making Sense of Your World: A Biblical Worldview” is published by Sheffield Press.
John observes that in today’s world, many Christians have forgotten who’s world this is. We act as though it’s our world and we occasionally invite God into it — rather than recognizing God’s ownership entering His world instead. He says that when you realize who God is, and that we live in His world, then you realize that you’re actually far bigger than yourself.
A trend that we’re seeing in America today is that of a delayed adolescence. Men, in particular, are extending their childhoods such that settling down, starting a family and contributing to society aren’t nearly as important as beating the next boss and winning the next level on a video game. John says there are several key elements to turning that around:
