* Rev 19:10 - The angel gave John an incredible revelation of prophecy.
* It caused such a stir in John he wanted to worship the angel who gave him the prophecy.
* Rev 22:8-9 - The angel gave John a glimpse of the new heaven and new earth.
* It moved John so much he did it again.
* On both occasions the angel told him not to worship him, but to worship God.
* KEY - if we’re not careful we can gravitate toward worshipping the thing that draws us closer to God than God Himself.
* These prophecies were meant to draw John and others close to God.
* The angel was God’s tool to reveal these things to John.
* John was tempted to worship the tool.
* In Rev 19 the angel told John, “the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.”
* John didn’t need to worship the spirit (angel) who gave the prophecy.
* He simply needed to hold to Jesus and he would have the same spirit in him.
* Two points (Skip Moen):
* 1) Every person takes on the character and nature of the God he worships.
* 2) The characteristics of all false gods is that they destroy their worshippers.
* God wants our worship. He doesn’t want us to worship His things.
