Today we take a look at the 5th trumpet being sounded, which is the first woe judgment. Here John describes seeing a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. It is common for the Bible to use the word “star” when referring to angels. In this case, the star who had fallen refers particularly to a fallen angel. Some say that it is referring to Satan himself, while others say it is a high ranking demon or fallen angel working under Satan. Either way this fallen angel (Apollyon) is given authority to open the abyss, and unleash a punishment that will last 5 months. The people without God’s protection will not be able to escape it. They will want to die, but death will allude them. Despite their constant refusal to turn from their wicked ways God shows mercy. Let’s dive into this 5th trumpet and see what we can learn today.
