This is a slightly different episode. Today we are talking about basic human instinct - the lust of the eyes - the desire of the flesh. We all experience it. It's baked into our human nature! We notice beauty. We are attracted to people we find sexually attractive! When taken to the extreme, it can lead to abuse - exploitation - objectification - and worse! As people of faith, we agree that desire is God-given, and sex is beautiful when enjoyed in the context of a Godly marriage. But we live in a lustful, sexually charged culture. How do we negotiate this? Our response to this has been to promote modesty - and this phenomenon called purity culture. We send the message that men are inherently lustful - and it's up to the women to cover up - be gatekeepers - so they won't cause men to stumble. Is this helpful? Is it accurate?
