The film opens with whispers in the Canadian wilderness, where people are discussing the "White Pines slaughter" and caressing an enigmatic locket they discovered beneath a fire tower. Although we don't witness them taking it down, we can tell that something holy has been disturbed by the rumblings beneath the mud and the leaves that appear afterwards. He soon gets up and stealthily makes his way through the forest, focusing on the locket and the group of young people from horror movies who have taken it. Despite having a familiar plot, the film's inverted perspective and almost Malickian manner of filmmaking make it feel quite different. The majority of "Violent Nature" feels more like a walk than a film; Pierce Derks' camera follows Johnny in extended takes from behind, resembling a third-person video game.
