The driver, of course, is unable to fulfill Ben's wish, but he does drop him off in a dive pub where he is punched out, throws back mudslides, and, at the lowest point of the night, runs across his music teacher from elementary school, Carla Kessler, who is also a widow looking for her next chapter. Despite his moms' open declarations that they would love to pair him up with a beautiful Jewish lady, maybe Gabby, the town rabbi's daughter, Ben finds himself spending more time with Carla. Carla has made the decision that she wants to finally have the bat mitzvah that her Russian Communist parents denied her all those years ago and that she left behind when she married her now-deceased Protestant husband in an attempt to reconcile with their Jewish heritage.
