Ryan and Rory let their imaginations run wild for a game of “What If?” Fourteen years ago, the plight of two franchises were dramatically changed when the Ottawa Senators inked Wade Redden over Zdeno Chara: What if the Sens hitched their wagon to Chara instead? And remember the 2015 NHL Draft, when a Greater Toronto Area phenom named Connor McDavid was available at the top of the board? What if the Toronto Maple Leafs had won the right to select him from their own backyard?

Then Gare Joyce joins the pod to discuss an extensive piece he wrote about the 1919 Stanley Cup Final. That series between the Montreal Canadiens and Seattle Metropolitans was called off due to the Spanish flu. Joyce dove into the newspaper archives and history books to find out how that pandemic — which took the life of Canadiens defenceman Joe Hall — was covered and if the scene then was in any way similar to the situation we face in 2020 as COVID-19 defines our day-to-day existence.
