This week, Tyler Schenzel led us in a word on revival.
He spoke out of Hosea 10:12:
“ Sow righteousness for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes
and showers his righteousness on you”.
The great revivalist Charles Finney said that revival needs to begin with three things; conviction of sin on the part of the church, a deep searching of the heart, and a persons faith being renewed.
In order to be a part of this, we need to take the plow into our hearts and break up the unplowed ground within us. Five symptoms we have unplowed ground within our hearts:
We have little to no revelation of Scripture
We have not recently confessed sin to the Lord or a loved one.
We lack tears.
We are bored and/or indifferent.
We have no vision or passion.
If we find ourselves in a place where any of these things are true, there is good news, and that is the plough is in our hands. Through perseverance and prayer we can create good soil within us; a place where God can give us dreams, revelation and passion. We simply need to plough.
This process begins by humbling ourselves, confessing our sin, and repenting and turning back to the Lord.
The invitation is to plough the areas of our hearts so we can be led into wholeness and intimacy with Jesus.
