Good evening. Rhode Island. I'm Michael Nally.
Step outside this morning. And you'll feel that damp, clinging fog. It’s like walking through a cold cloud. Classic early March in New England. But don't let the gray skies fool you. We're stealing a page from spring today. Providence hits 59 degrees — that's a whopping 26 degrees above normal for this time of year.
Here comes the warmth. Fog hangs tough around Providence through the morning. You might see a few spotty showers tonight, but nothing widespread. Highs climb to 59 today before dropping back to 36 overnight. Sunday stays cloudy with a lingering chance of showers. But Monday? Sunshine returns. And temperatures soar to 66 degrees. You’ll want shorts for that.
Down along Narragansett Bay, the story’s a little different. Drizzle and fog dominate tonight, with lows hovering around 40 degrees. Sunday stays damp and cooler, topping out at 53 degrees. But like Providence, the bay warms dramatically by Monday — 58 degrees and sunny. Perfect for a midday stroll near the Newport Bridge if you ask me.
Looking ahead, this warm streak isn't a fluke. We're talking highs in the mid-60s for Providence by Tuesday. But there's a twist. By Thursday, a cold front sweeps through. Highs plummet back into the 40s. There's even a chance of snow mixing in Thursday night. Classic New England — spring teases us, then winter reminds us it's not done yet.
In One thing to watch, with all this warmth, snowmelt is accelerating. Rivers like the Pawcatuck could see minor flooding early in the week. Keep an eye on low-lying areas if you're near the water.
In Here's a fun note, we're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Sunrise today at 6:12 A.M., sunset at 5:43 P.M. The spring equinox is just 13 days away — hang in there!
Charge your phone and grab that extra jacket tonight. See you tomorrow.
