Rhode Island Weather 3/8 Midday - 25° Above Normal

Listen Later

Good afternoon. Rhode Island. I'm Matt Mullins.
Step outside and you'll feel 49 degrees with fog hugging the coast. Damp, gray, a little gloomy. But here's the thing. We're about to flip the script completely.
Providence hits 57 degrees by 1 P.M. — that's 25 degrees above normal for early March. West winds at 8 miles an hour keep things comfortable. Down along Narragansett Bay, the ocean holds you back a touch — topping out at 52 with southwest winds at 12 miles an hour. Patchy drizzle lingers through mid-morning, then inland skies start breaking up. The coast? Stubbornly gray with fog possible into afternoon.
Tonight drops to 35 degrees statewide under partly cloudy skies. Perfect setup for what's coming.
Monday is the stunner. Sunny skies and southwest winds push Providence to 64 degrees. Even the Bay warms to 55 despite that ocean breeze. We're talking temperatures we haven't seen since last fall.
Here's your week ahead. Tuesday brings more sunshine and 63 degrees — another gorgeous day. Wednesday starts cloudy at 58, with rain developing after 8 P.M. Thursday's when things get messy. Rain likely with southwest winds gusting to 28 miles an hour. Rain could change to snow Thursday night as temperatures crash to 25 degrees. Friday clears out with highs near 43.
One more thing — spring forward tonight. You lose an hour of sleep, but we're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight every day now. Spring equinox is just 12 days away.
Enjoy the warmth while it lasts.
See you this evening.
