Richard Chew's WCPT Story

Listen Later

Hey, progressives, this is Richard Chew. We all have a story and I'd like to briefly share with you my WCPT story.

I had been listening to WCPT -- Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann and the others -- since 2014, occasionally appearing on "The Family Meeting." But it was the summer of 2017, while driving back from Fort Wayne, Indiana, when Eric Grant and I had a conversation which led me to appearing as a regular co-host with him and Tressa McDonnell on "The Family Meeting," Sundays 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Soon after that, Joan Esposito and I met, which led to me appearing on her show, "Live, Local & Progressive," in studio with Joan. Man, did we have a lot of fun. "Over the next couple of years, I would sit in for Joan when she needed a break, as well as Santita Jackson, two of the top women in Chicago broadcasting. Then Patti Vasquez, another great WCPT voice, and I hit it off because I just love Patti's energy and grasp of so many issues. Plus, she's funny as hell.

Our leadership at WCPT, Matt and Mark specifically, were always willing to have me sit in to help with various shows. Then it happened: I got the call to come up from the minors to the big show. In February 2024 I became your morning show 6:00 to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday's pragmatic voice. "Chew's Views" was born. This past 14 months have been quite a ride with all of you. Our world has changed, and being connected to each other is more important than ever before. So I will be here for you when you're calling. It's my joy to bring you the best that I've got.

This is Richard Chew. Stay tuned, progressives.
