Richard Elias - Pima County Supervisor, District 5
Richard Elías, Chairman of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, believes the responsibility of elected officials is to represent all of their constituents, including those with the greatest needs.
He is focused on securing social justice for everyone, which requires among other things the provision of quality public services, the protection and enhancement of workers’ rights, and the reduction of disparities in the delivery of health care.
A fifth-generation Tucsonan, Richard works to celebrate the area’s rich history and to preserve the historical and archaeological artifacts that contributed to making ours the unique and vibrant community we enjoy today. He has represented the west side of urban Tucson, and midtown, on the Board of Supervisors for 18 years.
He represents District 5, which is Pima County's most urban district, and home to 50 neighborhood associations and neighborhood organizations.
Richard was most recently elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2016 and is running for re-election. He has dealt with issues such as rejecting operation Stonegarden grant money, supporting background checks at the gun show, and the opening of a $31 million expansion project at Kino Sports Complex.
He supports access to quality preschools for all Pima County children, converting juvenile center wing to shelter asylum-seekers, and he supported the unsuccessful Proposition 205 to make Tucson a 'sanctuary city.'
