To understand that, we spoke with Matthew Lewis, chair of the Richard III Society, author of several books on the Wars of the Roses, and one of the hosts of History Hit’s new podcast Gone Medieval. He explains how Richard helped York out of a few sticky situations when he was still a Duke, how Richard championed the common man during his time in Yorkshire, and how his trip to York after his coronation may have led to his downfall.
