Taken as a whole, Rick and Morty Season 8 is not the show’s finest hour. As IGN noted in our initial review of the season, things starts off on an underwhelming note, with an especially weak first half that sees the Adult Swim series recycling old tropes and ideas rather than blazing new ground. Fortunately, the season gets markedly better as it progresses, culminating in two all-time banger episodes in “Nomortland” and “Hot Rick” – the former headlined by a multifaceted, multi-Jerry performance from Chris Parnell, the latter forcing Rick (Ian Cardoni) to confront how his actions and mistakes continue to poison his relationship with his family in unforeseen ways. Rick and Morty may no longer be as consistently great as it once was, but the show still has moments of pure sci-fi comedy brilliance.
