NOTES FROM SHOW
Welcome to the Switched On podcast today we have Rick Heyland with us. Rick is president of ci for life, and is the author of live your purpose. Welcome Rick, I'm excited to have you on the show today. Can you tell us a bit more about your background and beyond the intro. And yeah, I'll
Rick Heyland 1:14
give a little bit of background before we dive in, I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife and I share I'll have six kids and 15 grandkids Well, actually, the 15th is due tomorrow. So, I'm already counting. And originally born in Lethbridge Alberta, Canada. I did my education my undergrad there and my MBA there and then we moved to the US about 20 to 23, years ago, I was president and CEO of us operations, America operations for a consulting company called RLG International for 31 years, a year and a half ago I retired started a, as you said a continuous improvement for life ci for life, personal coaching productivity improvement
Rick Heyland 2:00
I've been having a blast traveling a lot less love less stress. And, as you mentioned just sort of work so it's been a lot of fun.
Dan Riordan 2:09
Well that's great the retirement is active so far.
Yeah, yeah, it's very true and it's really fantastic to be meeting so many amazing people through these podcasts I'm really joined and myself. So, you know, maybe give us a little background on the why of CI4Life life. You know, why did you create it. And what's the desired outcome for people as they as they dive in with you. In that
Rick Heyland 3:01
spirit of living and practicing continuous improvement. That was doing it, traveling a lot and I was doing it with large organizations. And I wanted to do it, maybe more one on one, and touch more people with it so that's kind of the reason for writing the book and that's the reason for jumping into continuous improvement for life is wanting to touch individuals, and a lot more of.
Dan Riordan 3:27
Yeah, that's great. It's, um, I've done the airplane time and the traveling all over the globe, myself and, you know there's a there's a lot of time spent there that you aren't really, all the way on purpose because you're just using the time to get from one place to another. So I really agree with you that it's nice to not be traveling as much. At this stage,
Rick Heyland 3:55
along with the why on that is really, you know, to try to help people use the processes and tools of continuous improvement to accomplish their personal and work goals, and when I'm saying personal goals,
Unknown Speaker 4:10
physical, spiritual,
Rick Heyland 4:12
mental work. Relationships financial. So that's kind of the spirit that I'm trying to do is teach the tools, the mindset and the skill set to help accomplish the goal.
Dan Riordan 4:26
That's great. What do you think are the top few three to five things that are most misunderstood by people in this continuous mindset pursuit. Where do you think we all get tripped up care
Rick Heyland 4:50
for companies if I had to get one root cause, or maybe two in your change initiatives or continuous improvement.
