Rick Mannen competed as an international-class marathon runner, winning seven international marathons, including Hong Kong, Toronto, and Buffalo, where his record time of 2:22:35 stood for 17 years. He also competed for Canada at the World Cup Marathon in Seoul, South Korea and the Pan Pacific Marathon Championships in Long Beach, California.
