Today is September 3, 2016. Travel back with me to this date in 1984. I was tempted to steer our baseball time machine back to 1962 to see those horrendous expansion Mets be shutout for the 30th time this season. But instead we’re headed to Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia to witness a performance that is terribly good, instead of just terrible. Because today in a 5-4 Cubs victory over the Phillies, Cubs pitcher Rick Sutcliffe will strike out 15, tying the franchise record.
