Rideshare Stories Episode 4

Disposable Cameras

I can remember buying disposable cameras, taking 50 pictures, and waiting a week or two to see the outcome. Opening the envelope of freshly developed photos was always a special occasion. I’d share the tiny glimpses with my friends and family and we’d be wrapped in an extraordinary moment together.

Today I scroll through Facebook & Instagram. My phone has access to more pictures than anyone has in a basement full of photo albums collecting dust. I click like and move on to the next one.

I certainly miss the connection and seeing the expression on faces as I guide fellow explorers through a thick book of pages. I long for telling and hearing the stories each snapshot holds behind the glossy surface.

I had the honor of giving Jerry with K1NG Photography a Lyft last week. He happened to be in town shooting a wedding. He reminded me, through his passion and love of snapping a picture, how important film is. He explained lenses, lighting, and a handful of other things over my head.

I’m happy we have people like Jerry in the world who care and don’t let the power of technology dampen his love of his craft. His talent shines in all of his photos and it’s obvious he knows what he’s talking about.

I guess my most valuable pictures are the ones from my lowest points. These photos are priceless because they remind me of how far I’ve come. They all have a bit of a tragic story behind them and that’s okay. It’s good because the hard lessons forced me to make life changing decisions. 📸 #WOBA #ridesharestories
