Oneness is not a feeling to pursue in marriage. It is a theological reality to be lived from, and it only works when affirmation is anchored in God rather than in the relationship itself.
This teaching addresses the third expression of Grace in an ongoing series on what it means to say "I do." The argument is precise: whatever affirms you defines you, which means a person whose affirmation comes from a spouse, from wealth, from status, or from self will inevitably lose themselves or become insecure in proportion to how unstable that source is. Only God can be the source of affirmation, because seeking His pleasure produces Christlikeness rather than conformity to another person's needs or expectations. The teaching also confronts how marriage is treated as a crowning achievement, arguing that it is the second most important decision a person will make, after who they serve, and that confusing it with an identity goal distorts both the person and the union.
SCRIPTURE: John 17:21, 2 Corinthians 13:14
SERIES: Rooting. A season of teaching on what covenant relationship actually requires of sons, tracing the expressions of Grace that make genuine union possible.
