Riot Rewind week ending 10/20/17
If you missed our Tuesday podcast it was chock full of Panthers news and discussion. We covered the loss to the Eagles, looked ahead to this Sunday’s matchup against Chicago and covered the keys to the game as well as the matchups we want to see. We got serious gave out our first Lifetime Ban and finished up with my thoughts on Winston-Salem, Ashlyn’s love of stuff with a frosted rim, Jayme’s delight in seeing the People’s Elbow in a touchdown celebration and Drew’s obsession with lime trees. You heard that right.
After the loss to the Eagles on Thursday night football the Panthers have had a few extra days to prepare for their match with the Bears on Sunday.
Luke Kuechly had been in the NFL’s mandated concussion protocol throughout the week but did fully practice on Thursday. It was announced Friday that Kuechly will not play Sunday. David Mayo will get the start in Kuechly’s place.
Kelvin Benjamin left practice early Thursday with a sore knee. In week 3 Benjamin went down on his left knee after being tackled from behind after which he was held out the rest of the game. Benjamin is expected to play Sunday.
Other inactives for Sunday include running back Fozzy Whittaker, tackle John Theus and backup safety Demetrius Cox.
Two team captains who have been out with injuries are expected to return Sunday. Kurt Coleman and Ryan Kalil are expected to be back in action.
Kalil has been nursing a sore neck since the Buffalo Bills game in week two. He practiced last week but did not play since the Panthers had a short week with the game on Thursday night.
Kurt Coleman has missed the last two games after suffering a knee injury against New England. Coleman was expected to be sidelined for a month but he did practice on Wednesday.
Finally, in former Panthers news, the Detroit Lions have claimed Brad Kaaya off of waivers. The Panthers released Kaaya after signing linebacker Andrew Gachkar. Kaaya was drafted by the Lions in the sixth round in the 2017 draft.
On November 5th the Panthers will host the Atlanta Falcons. This will also be what we at the Roaring Riot are calling our “homecoming game” where Panthers fans from all chapters inside and outside the Carolinas will come together for an incredible weekend of events and – we hope – a Panthers win!
