Happy Easter!
I love to celebrate the Sunday Resurrection!
The RESURRECTION means HOPE!
… But let’s be honest for a second…
Have you ever hit rock bottom? Ever lack hope?
I have.
Moments when dreams died.
Felt buried by regret, crushed by shame, and paralyzed by fear.
Some of you feel like you’re there right now.
You’re smiling on the outside but feel six feet deep on the inside.
You need to know that You’re not alone.
And more importantly… this isn’t the end.
We all know what it’s like to feel down.
Sometimes it feels like life just keeps pushing you lower.
Religion shows up and lectures us, “You just need to climb out!”
But what if… God didn’t wait for us to climb up?
What if He came down…
All the way down?
Turn in Your Bible to Philippians 2.
The Apostle Paul told us about a God who came down for a people who were down.
Philippians 2:6–8 (NIV)
God made Himself nothing…
became a servant…
a human…
humbled himself…
died upon the cross…
Jesus stepped down…
Jesus did not avoid the step down.
No one forced Jesus down.
John 10:17-18 (NIV)
We aren’t like Jesus, because we avoid the step down and usually feel forced down.
But not Jesus! Jesus stepped down because of love.
Jesus stepped down to show us how to live again.
Revelation 1:18 (NIV):
Jesus didn’t stay down.
If you feel like you’re at rock bottom today,
Jesus gets it—because He’s been there! He’s even been lower.
You have never felt a pain or sorrow that Jesus has not felt. He willingly felt the pain and sorrow so He could bear our sorrows and give us hope.
Look what Isaiah prophesied about Jesus 700 years before the cross…
Isaiah 53:4 (NIV)
You aren’t alone in your pain.
Jesus has been where you are.
Jesus shows us a way to rise.
John 11:25 (NIV):
You may feel buried… But those buried with Jesus do not stay buried.
Romans 6:4 (NIV):
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Jesus came down and died for us so that we would have a resurrection like His.
If you feel down, this is a great day for a turn around.
How to rise?
1. Recognize That Jesus Didn’t Stay Down
2. Realize You’re Not Alone in the Struggle
3. Rise by Responding to the Resurrection
Easter is more than a holiday. It is the proof that hope still lives.
This is week one of a journey we’re taking together.
Over the next weeks we will learn to rise… from fear, past failure, beyond the grave.
This isn’t self-help. This is resurrection power.
Jesus stepped down… And Jesus rose!
He rose from hell
He rose from the grave
He rose from injustice
He rose from rejection
He rose from poverty
He rose from humanity
He rose from the earth
He rose to heaven where He sits on the throne.
He is Risen.
Time to Rise
1. Invite Jesus into the struggle.
Let Him into the places you’ve tried to hide. The grave is no match for His glory.
2. Take one step toward life today.
Maybe that is…
-Prayer, talking to someone, deciding to be baptized.
3. Come back next week.
-Don’t stop at the empty tomb, your resurrection story is still being written.
