Our culture is filled with stories of heroes who escape death and snatch victory from the mouth of defeat. We like these stories because we long to know that death is not the end. And we sometimes think that if we can avoid death long enough, we can ultimately escape it.
In the Gospel, Jesus shows us that death is not the end. But he doesn't accomplish this by escaping death. Instead, he conquers death. He enters into death to strike it at its heart. He is resurrected, never to die again, and is calling us into resurrection life with him.
