The day before The Athletic's C. Trent Rosecrans and Cincinnati Reds all-time saves leader Danny Graves prepared to talk about the Reds’ first base position, the team added a first baseman, agreeing to a one-year deal with Eugenio Suárez, who will DH and work at 1B this spring. 

If there’s a down side to this signing, we haven’t seen it. Suárez brings his “Good Vibes Only” mentality along with a bat that slugged 49 home runs last year. Nick Krall and Brad Meador are applauded for doing what this team needed this offseason with panic. It’s hard to be this positive, but it’s a big bat at a much smaller price tag than other options. Heck, Suárez was even the top offensive free agent remaining and he’s a Red again.
