The world is ash and mutant animals rule society. The Road Hogs control the highways of the old world. A team of unlikely road warriors rally a local militia and arrive at Bakersfield-by-the-Sea moments before a rocket launch carrying a payload that will "purify" the world is ready to launch. Cue massive explosions.
