Early on Friday morning, just after 7:30 a.m., in the area of westbound I-215 near Gibson Road, authorities responded to a fatal road rage shooting incident. According to Henderson Police, two vehicles were jockeying for position as they merged from I-11 onto the 215 Beltway. Both drivers rolled down their windows and exchanged words during the altercation. Police say a 22-year-old man, later identified as Tyler Matthew Johns, allegedly produced a handgun and fired one round into the other vehicle, striking an 11-year-old child seated in the back. According to Chief Reggie Rader, the child, who was on his way to school with his stepfather, tragically succumbed to his injuries at University Medical Center. After the shooting, the stepfather rammed the suspect's vehicle, bringing both to a stop in the middle of the freeway. Both drivers exited their vehicles and continued their confrontation before a passing Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer detained the suspect on site. Police recovered the firearm and Johns was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. The case is classified as under investigation.
