The main protagonists have to manage obligations, expectations and longings while dealing with a bit of mystery, suspense and danger. The story keeps you guessing and rooting for all the characters.
and fun in the California west
Heartwarming and often humorous story of life, faith, and fun in the California west. I enjoyed it a lot!
A sweet story
The Road to Harmony is a sweet story about star-crossed lovers who struggle with the tension between their perceived obligations and their heartsâ true desires. Sherry Kyle depicts the relationship between Elena and her mentally impaired brother particularly well. Elena has to learn where to draw the line between protecting her brother and allowing him to become independent.
Elenaâs choice of a husband and a lifestyle is the heart of this story. The historical setting of early twentieth century California recalls a time when a significant percentage of the economy was agriculturally based. Matrimony was as much an economic decision and a family affair as it was a personal choice. Readers might ponder how true this is in todayâs culture.
Kyle captures some of the social friction that was growing in the progressive era. Gender roles were being redefined, but the Christian ethic was still strong. That Elena would endeavor to accommodate the needs of others to the point of sacrificing her dreams may not play well in todayâs narcissistic culture. But sacrifice often affords a solution. Given enough faith and time, good things can happen to those who wait on the Lord.
I received a digital copy of Road to Harmony in exchange for a fair and honest review. Opinions expressed are mine alone.
