They know almost nothing about long-term harmful effects and even less about withdrawal effects. It's almost taboo to talk about stopping psychiatric drugs. Millions of people think they need psychiatric drugs because their feel dreadful when they try to stop them; but they don't need drugs--the need to learn to how to stop taking them. His new book, Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal, describes many of the reasons to stop taking psychiatric drugs and shows how to withdraw from them as safely as possible. Peter R. Breggin MD is a psychiatrist in private practice Ithaca, New York. Dr. Breggin is a worldwide leader in psychiatric reform who is called "The Conscience of Psychiatry." He founded the Center for the Study of Empathic Therapy, and has written more than 20 books including Talking Back to Prozac and Toxic Psychiatry. His new book is Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal: A Guide for Prescribers, Therapists, Patients and their Families.
